Looking for the Ultimate Children's Book?
As a writer myself, I realize how difficult it is to entertain with my writing, whether it is children or those of us who have never grown up. But, can you imagine the talent it takes to entertain both young and old, that is to say young children and the child in you? It's possible although few have ever been able to master this talent. One gentleman, who is a classic writer of children's books is Dr Seuss and we have all either read his books or at one time in our lives had them read to us.
There is one book which stands out in my mind as being not only for children but for children of all ages to enjoy. It's a quick read and you will be done before you know it. The book to which I refer is:
"You are Only Old Once - a Book for Obsolete Children" by Dr. Seuss and A.S. Geisel -1986. Published by Random House.
This book is about one old person's journey to the doctor's office for some tests. A battery of tests in fact, and the man is fearful and elderly, but well aware of his fears of the doctor's visit and what is expected of him. It starts out with the patient reading a National Geographic Magazine in the lobby and waiting for his name to be called.
He fills out forms, has his privacy invaded and continues to go through procedure after procedure, as he frets, worries and signs more forms. In the end he is given a clean bill of health, but the ordeal makes the book so very funny, no matter what age you are.
