Dealing With Addicted Children
Imagine you are a parent and you assumed that you have done everything right, however you learn that your child is using and abusing drugs or alcohol or both? Where can you turn to for help? You are afraid for your child's future, you do not want them to get into any more trouble, but you know you must solve this problem. Worse, your child is addicted but will not admit it and their behavior is getting out of hand.
You need help, you need a guide or a book that can help you through this tough time, tell you what to expect, whom to trust and how to return your family and your child back to normal. Of course, this is so stressful and such an embarrassing situation that you are unable to cope. Well, if you are in such a situation, I'd sure like to offer some advice.
Â
No, I've never experienced anything like this, but I do know of a most excellent book you could read, one that I found quite fascinating, a book that should indeed, be available to all families in such time of crisis. The book to which I refer is:
Â
"Our Children are Alcoholics; Coping with Children that Have Addictions" by Sally and David B.; Islewest Publishing and Carlisle Communications, Inc., Dubuque, IA; 1997.
Â
This book has stories, suggestions and how to advice from psychologists, counselors and educational professionals. The advice is sound and the authors are real. It's an easy book to read, it will not take you more than a couple of nights to complete and I highly recommend it. Please consider this.
